One mention of exfoliation, waxing or manicure, and our minds instantly cut to a salon full of women nattering about their latest break-ups and make-ups (a la Legally Blonde). Girly magazines are splashed across tables, the click-clack of high heels is non-stop and the sweet smell of perfume fills the ether. For your average heterosexual guy, it’s an absolute nightmare and enough to make him go a-running to the nearest pub for a large pint of testosterone and a side-order of macho.
However, London’s newest edition to the beauty scene offers London lads the chance to indulge in some treatments and receive pampering fit for a king. Stylishly called Barber’s Buzz, the centrally located establishment is London’s answer to an affordable, all-male grooming salon.
The owner and founder of Barber’s Buzz, David Grey, decided to create the salon after years of bad experiences at traditional barbershops. Having endured the excessively feminine decor and atmosphere of supposedly “unisex” salons for long enough, David threw in the towel and Barber’s Buzz was born.
The principal idea behind the salon was to keep the masculine theme as consistent as possible throughout the store and throughout the client’s experience. The overall colour scheme sticks strictly to a mix of blacks, chromes and whites, creating an extremely stylish and professional environment. The trendy approach extends even as far as the waiting area seating, designed by Miles Van Der Rohe.
