Conference-goers complain of alien abduction risk

Bizarre travel storiesForget lost luggage, the world's weirdest travel complaints include fear of alien abduction, noisy oceans and elephant penis-envy!

Travel agents around the world have been sharing some of the strangest things they've heard reported by disappointed holiday-makers and have compiled a list of the best (or worst) customer complaints. At the top of this list is a pair of newlyweds who took their honeymoon at a well-reputed African game lodge.

The young groom reportedly demanded compensation after claiming that the sight of a visibly aroused elephant had made him feel "inadequate" and ruined the romantic getaway he and his new wife had been hoping for. Coming in a close second is the agitated woman who called down to her hotel reception demanding to know why she had been locked in her room.

Staff who went to investigate discovered that she had read the 'Do not disturb' sign hanging on the inside doorknob and believed it to mean she could not open the door. The Novotel hotel chain had a fair few anecdotes to contribute, not least the conference that almost turned into a close encounter.Â

A group of people using the hotel's conference room were outraged that the locks on the doors had not been changed, thus putting them at serious risk from alien infiltration. Sadly, it did not come as a huge surprise that a number of British travellers had complained to their holiday reps of not enjoying their stay because the locals "didn't want to speak English".
