Hotel receptionist finds baby bat in her bra

Abbie Hawkins certainly gave guests, not to mention herself, a bit of a shock when she pulled a bat the size of her hand from within the padding of her bra.

The 19 year old is a receptionist at the Holiday Inn in Norwich retrieved the "cuddly little bat" from its 34FF nest after feeling strange vibrations coming from her underwear. Mind you, she had been wearing the bra for about five hours before it occurred to her that something might be a little out of the ordinary.

Miss Hawkins told reporters "When I was driving to work, I felt a slight vibration but I thought it was just my mobile phone in my jacket pocket". A fair assumption – after all, finding small winged mammals in your laundry isn't exactly an everyday occurrence.

The bra had been hanging on the washing line the night before and the bat had apparently taken a shine to its soft, padded lining and curled up inside. "I will certainly be checking my bras every morning from now on," said Miss Hawkins.

To date she is the only known person to find such an animal in her undies. Jaime Eastham, of the Bat Conservation Trust, said they had never heard of a bat being found in a bra before but she didn't rule out the risk, saying that they will roost anywhere that appears dark and safe… which, of course, is the main reason why I use a tumble dryer.
