This week saw the opening of a new fringe theatre venue in the Victoria area of central London.

The 50-seater venue is located just 100m from Victoria underground station, above the Stag pub on Bressendon Road, and is set to become the home of gay theatre company, Shameless who will be changing their name to Above the Stag Theatre to fit with their new HQ.

Peter Bull, the Producing Artistic Director of the company, is looking forward to taking the reins: "We are excited about opening one of London's most central fringe venues," he told the press. "We are also excited about the prospect of having the freedom to create."

Bull's credits as both a director and as a performer include Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Pippin, Cabaret, Chicago, and Funny Girl. He is also the current associate producer of the UK tour of SHOUT! The all new Above the Stag will be presenting their first show at the venue from the end of October. Entitled American Briefs it will be a series of "sexy new shorts" - short plays, that is, by young American playwrights and it won't end there, says Bull.

"We now have the freedom to do new things in such a central location. We want to work with other fringe theatres, I don't believe that we are in competition. If people like one show they will then go and see another one as well."

American Briefs runs from October 28 to November 23. Tues – Sat 8.00pm, Sun 6.00pm. Tickets £12.00 (conc. £10.00).
