Political
Sex and sexuality is playing an increasingly bigger part in our society so much so that it has become a culture in its own right. In London, the gay community plays an active political role, lobbying for equality and against discrimination. As society in London becomes more liberal and relaxed, ideas and opinions towards homosexuality are changing for the better; openly gay celebrities and political figures are becoming more and more commonplace.
However, whilst that law clearly states its intolerance of homophobic abuse and attacks, homophobic attitudes continue to permeate society, especially in London. Surveys have shown that in London alone, more than three attacks against an LGBT person are recorded daily and 38% of gay men and lesbians have found themselves to be victims of hate crime. Although this figure is definitely put into perspective when one considers the situation for many gay men in parts of the world such as Saudi Arabia, Nigeria and Somalia. Jail sentences, whipping and the death penalty are all punishments used against anyone who is suspected of being homosexual. The political push for sexuality equality is a far-reaching and ongoing struggle that is driven by many organizations and companies just like the ones listed below.
