Premature Ejaculation
Premature ejaculation, also referred to as PE, is the most common male sexual complaint, affecting over a quarter of all men. It is an extremely distressing condition and can be severely detrimental to your sex life. Most men will experience premature ejaculation at some point in their lives, especially when they are young, but if the problem persists then you should seek medical help.
What is Premature Ejaculation?
Premature Ejaculation is the inability to control, or delay ejaculation. However, there can be no exact ‘lasting time’ – what some couples may consider a satisfactory length of time for intercourse, may be inadequate for others. The European Society for Sexual Medicine reported that the average lasting time for men with PE was 1.8 minutes whilst ‘normal’ men lasted an average of 7.3 minutes. However, some men who claimed to suffer from PE could ‘last’ up to 25 minutes. This clearly demonstrates then that people have wildly differing ideas about the ‘normal’ lasting time.
What causes Premature Ejaculation?
Sex experts believe that the main cause of premature ejaculation is early conditioning. A man’s early sexual experiences are usually rushed and furtive so it was important for him to be as ‘quick’ as possible so as to avoid detection – in effect then, conditioning himself to climax as quickly as possible.
Other causes include:
- Anxiety
- Stress
- Nervousness
- Poor Diet
- Nutritional deficiencies
- Age
- Illness
- Psychological barriers
- Abstinence
- Excessive Masturbation
- Oversensitivity
Long term effects of premature ejaculation
Frequent occurrences of premature ejaculation can quickly build anxiety towards sexual situations, making your PE even worse. Frustration and apprehension can quickly lead to insecurities for both you and your partner, and possibly spoil your sex life and relationship.
