Skin & Hair

The main purpose of our skin is protection and as we grow up and older our skin can go through various phases and can be influenced by our environment in various different ways. It has become a custom in our modern society to do all we can to protect our skin. After all our skin does play a big part in how we feel about ourselves.

Skin

More and more men are starting to see the benefits of taking care of their skin… even though it’s inner beauty that counts your skin is after all the first thing people notice. But on a less superficial note one could say that our skin is one of your most important organs and incidentally, contrary to what some of us might think, one of the biggest. With its amazing structure it protects our inner organs from the harmful elements in our environment. It also acts as a medium through which toxins are excreted from our body and more importantly plays a big role in our sense of touch.

The skincare routine of the modern man consists of cleansing toning and moisturising in order to battle age and other conditions that might affect the skin. The most common of these is acne and premature aging of the skin.

Premature aging of the skin

There are two types of skin aging. One type is as a result of environmental factors (sun, smoking etc.) and the other is as a result of mainly genetic factors. Both are treated in much the same way. Although one can’t really slow down or stop aging as a result of genetic factors it doesn’t hurt to have a healthy skincare routine as you can still stop environmental factors from causing further premature aging.

The best thing you can do for your skin is to stay out of the sun as much as possible and wear protective clothing. It also helps to steer clear of smoking as this can cause damage to the skin.

Treatments

If you have issues with the fact that your skin might be aging there is a wide range of treatments that have been proven to be effective. Like injectable fillers and botulinum toxin that can be seen as quick fix for people that don't want to deal with long recovery periods and . Radiofrequency treatments can be used as an alternative to surgical solutions. Dermabrasion, chemical peels, laser resurfacing, microdermabrasion, and other topical treatments can give the skin a refreshed and smoother appearance.

Acne

What is acne?

Acne can be severe or moderate and is the collective term for all those irritating conditions like blackheads, whiteheads, spots and cysts and usually affects the face, neck, shoulders, upper arms, chest and back. Acne can affect anybody at any stage in their lives and is not just restricted to teenagers, although it is more common for this problem to occur during the teenage years.

Treatments

Home treatment

This involves keeping the skin and spot prone areas clean, controlling bacteria and opening pores. These treatments are either lotions or face washes that can be bought at any pharmacy. There are also treatments that can help prevent the scarring caused by acne, as acne even though relatively harmless can sometimes cause scaring.
